NYC at Christmastime

New York, New York... a city that I have a very "meh" relationship with. Growing up I put NYC on the pedestal thinking it was the greatest city in the entire world and as I got older returning to NYC for "business" trips, I quickly found that I identified more with the LA lifestyle than the NYC lifestyle, hence why I chose to move to Los Angeles upon graduating from college. The one thing I had never done though was visit New York in the winter when all the Christmas lights are up, so my mom and I made the venture to NYC in early December!

Damn NYC, you do have some nice Free People stores... I envy NYC for that.

On the first day in NYC, I wore this top and bottom from Free People because I wanted to be comfy on the plane ride considering we flew to New York at 7am. Apparently I'm not a morning person because it took me till landing at LGA to realize my pants had been backwards all morning. Classic.

We spent the first day eating at Sara Beth's (a staple for any NYC trip) and shopping along 5th Avenue before checking into our Airbnb in Chelsea. (BTW I have an invite for Airbnb that gets you $20 off your first trip!) For dinner, I took my mom to Shake Shack for her first time because NYC is where it originated. I'm obsessed with their cheese fries and apparently in 2018, Shake Shack is coming to Nashville. *praises the sweet baby Jesus*

Day 2 was spent exploring SoHo in the daytime although we actually started the day at the Chelsea Market. My mom and I love Soho so much! There is an amazing Free People in Soho but I prefer the one at the Rockefeller Center, which we returned to after shopping all day so I could pick something up. On the way there, we stopped to look at the Christmas lights where we snapped these pictures before heading into Magnolia Bakery. My mom and I also love Magnolia Bakery because of their Hummingbird Cake and I love the banana pudding, this time I tried the chocolate banana pudding which actually had Oreos in it!

We finished the night at SoHo and then headed to Herald Square to do some damage in the stores there. We actually had a lot of luck at the Nordstrom Rack there. So many hidden gems. That's actually where I got my iPhone cable that looks like Christmas lights... #practical.

Day 3 was probably my favorite. I wish we would've explored and stayed in Brooklyn because I loved Dumbo. My mom and I both adore home decor so when we saw that there was a huge West Elm, we knew we hit the jackpot. We went in there and window shopped after taking about 100 pictures to get the perfect walking shot of the Manhattan Bridge... Thanks, Mom!

After that we went to the 9/11 Memorial which is simply amazing and a must see. It was so crazy crowded but as expected because it was a Saturday during the Holiday Season. We decided to take the subway uptown to go back to Central Park to see the John Lennon Strawberry Fields. Day 3 was a chill day.

The final day we decided to eat breakfast at a random restaurant near our Airbnb before checkout. I think it was called the Grey Dog in Chelsea, whatever it was, it was delicious and definitely recommend it.

Our checkout was at 11am and our flight didn't require us to leave till 1 so we dropped our bags off at one of those Luggage Checks that they have in midtown where you pay them to watch your bags. Smart idea but be careful with your valuables. We had a good experience though.

My mom and I always fall victim of the M&M Store in Times Square... I think its safe to say that it's a guilty pleasure of both of ours because we've been to NYC 3 times together and every time we have to go stop buy to pay for some overpriced M&M's. It was funny because when we were checking out the cashier asked us what our favorite M&M's were and my mom & I are basically dedicated fans so we started listing off our favorites from the past like the Black Raspberry flavor from 10 years ago. The guy was shocked we even knew of those. We don't mess around when it comes to chocolate.

I would just like to give a round of applause to my mother for taking my pictures on my DSLR all weekend, she impressed me with how quickly she picked up on how to use it! Thank you, Mom!

  1. Dumb question but I'm going to NYC this winter. Can you go to Dumbo with a subway pass. I'm going to be staying in Times Square
